My short media autobiography with the eight types of mass media:
Books- When it comes to reading books, whether it be an assigned reading or just a casual reading, I find myself using hard copies of the book instead of using an electronic device.
Newspapers- It's sad to say, but whenever I read newspapers I go straight to the comics. Growing up, my grandpa and I would always read the comics every Sunday morning, so therefore that is why I only use that section of the newspaper and nothing else. When I want to read the news, I go on the internet to read it rather in the newspaper.
Magazines- Magazines normally are my source of "light" media because in this mass media I am heavily interested in fashion and the gossip of Hollywood. I consider this mass media as one of my down times; It's my escape from stress.
Movies- By far out of all the eight types of mass media, this one is my all time favorite. I love to catch up on the latest films as well as enjoying the experience with my friends and family members. Movies are also a great way to convey a message to a large group of people.
Audio- Long story short, music is my life. I am constantly listening to music and dependent on what mood I am in, is the genre I listen to that is closely related to how I am feeling.
Radio- I would say the radio is always playing wherever I go: on my way to school, on road trips, in my home, at small gatherings, and at work. Whether it be for music or for the daily news, I am always finding myself listening to the radio.
Television- As strange as it may sound (due to modern society and technology), I don't watch television normally. Television is my normal go to source of mass media because there are many other forms of media that I find personally more accessible and better fit to my needs than just the television. Because my major is Communications, I would love to acquire an occupation that would allow me to advertise and market a product on TV. I am hoping to transfer to the University of Oregon.
Internet- The internet is my primary source of mass media; It covers all of the other seven types of mass media in one compact, easily accessible source.
Hi Caylin! I thought it was funny you mentioned the newspaper being your own personal comic book... I go straight to the comics as well. I'm a huge movie buff too (despite not ever seeing The Railway Man), i go to the movies religiously and am always game for a good flick! Thanks for giving me something interesting to read in-between classes and I'm looking forward to a fun, successful quarter with you and our table-mates! cheers
ReplyDeleteCaylin, I loved reading this, you've got a wonderful writing style! I relate to the part about magazines as your downtime and as "light media" so much! Your positive energy always brings me up at the end of the day, thank you :)
ReplyDeleteHey Caylin! I also prefer hard copies of books in comparison to e-readers, it's just not the same! I identify with your casual magazine reading. It is more of a passive read so it gets hard to find the time to read them, but I agree that it's great for relieving stress. I love that you listen to music all day-it's such an awesome form of media and perfect for all occasions. Thanks for sharing your media insight!
ReplyDeleteI agree on the books part even i don't find E-books interesting and normal textbooks are more comfortable. You've given a complete picture about your relation with media. Apart from that you have a sweet gesture for helping others which is remarkable. Keep up this attitude and have a happy quarter!
ReplyDeleteIt seems like textbook publishers and others thought e-textbooks would be a bigger hit than they are. I think some kinds of books work better than others online.
